This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the same level as sparing holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a current administration.
“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life free from concern.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The swine, donated by a local firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six-seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The craze became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the holiday season,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.
“It represents the character of Miami: happy, diverse, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Annually, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and strong coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
