The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a major coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The experienced striker's signing should represent a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Their recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
