The Latest Casual Playlist Sparks Heated Discussions Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a new game mode called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough setup but features several key adjustments:
- Each team includes only eight human participants, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities performed by real players award full XP, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
- Only two locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.
In short, the playlist delivers on its title: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, as it provides more options for gamers seeking alternative methods to enjoy the game. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many BF6 fans are upset.
Community Reactions: From Fury to Praise
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," reads one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," comments another. At the same time, in community forums, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," while someone else details all the issues they consider to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
However, for every complaint, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Let them find a middle ground," adds a different comment. One reply via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Concerns and Community Input
All that said, there are constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase queue times even longer for other modes due to the sheer number of options currently available. On a similar note, some areas already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base meeting them in the middle, according to forum feedback. Another describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I experienced so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?
Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to player input. Tasks being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their standards, they will not hesitate to change it again.
