Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was natural for doubts to be asked about his position after a further convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool endured their 9th defeat in 12 games, marking the club's poorest run after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a tough night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I've received plenty of backing from above,” Slot stated.
“It would be great to change things and secure a win of course but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's typical that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the club's leadership, Slot explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular exchanges I feel the belief. But I've not talked to them after this game yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Failings and Squad Reaction
Slot lamented known shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his view of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones said.
“It’s just not good enough. I don't have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond being angry internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the words.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen this club for years.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a spell such as this with outcomes so bad.”
He stated, “However we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And until it is gone, we'll continue to fight.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, prove again the values of this club and why people call it the greatest side in the world.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
