Seamer Atkinson Compounds the English team's Injury Worries.

'Significant concern' for England after Atkinson is forced off with a hamstring injury.

Gus Atkinson added to England's injury problems after leaving the field during Saturday's play in the Melbourne Test versus the Australians.

The pace bowler pulled up with his left hamstring post-delivery in his spell at the MCG.

Team management stated Atkinson had experienced "tightness" and was to take time on the sidelines to undergo evaluation "over the next few hours".

The final Test in this Ashes battle in Sydney begins on Sunday, 4 January.

England have previously lost strike bowlers Mark Wood with a knee problem and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain during this series.

A replacement bowler was added to the party as cover for Wood.

Atkinson struggled during the first two matches, taking just a handful of scalps.

He was left out of the third Test, only to be brought back for the fourth Test to fill the void.

The county bowler performed better in the fourth Test, claiming a couple of wickets in Australia's first innings, before adding 28 as a batsman among just a trio of English batsmen to reach double figures.

Post a single over in Australia's second innings, he came back for the second day's play and dismissed the nightwatchman Scott Boland caught behind.

Unfortunately, on the final ball of that over, he sent down a change of pace to the batsman and immediately felt for his hamstring.

Gus Atkinson returned to the side for the fourth Ashes Test following his omission the Adelaide game.
