Jurgen Klopp states a return to manage Liverpool is theoretically possible.
The German coach, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, indicated that returning someday is a possibility. Klopp, following a hugely successful nine-year spell featuring a European Cup triumph and ending the club's long wait since 1990, currently occupies positions in a global football capacity with the Red Bull group and providing guidance to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
The club claimed the Premier League in the previous campaign, though countless followers holding him in high esteem would embrace the notion that he may eventually return. Speaking candidly, he explained to Steven Bartlett: “I said I refuse to lead another team on English soil. So that means if then it’s Liverpool...yes. In theory, it could happen.”
“Being 58, which suggests I could make the decision down the line, I don’t know. Must I choose now? If so, I wouldn't return. Luckily, no such pressure exists. I can just see how things unfold.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
When asked about what circumstances must arise to bring him back to the dugout, Klopp admitted he was not instantly drawn to such a return. “I'm not entirely sure, I love what I do right now,” he said. “I don't crave being a coach; I avoid standing in the rain for lengthy sessions; I don’t miss going to press conferences repeatedly each week or having 10-12 interviews a week.
“The locker room isn't missed per se, but sitting in a restaurant with the team enjoying conversation, I appreciate that. We won a lot of games thus frequently positive atmosphere at the club. I still have Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh in my ear to illustrate.”
Praise for His Successor
He commended for his successor, crediting him due to the changes that took the title in the previous season. The team has suffered four in a row across various tournaments post heavy investment, yet he dismissed the suggestion it could be the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker like Florian Wirtz, critics will regret if you use the wrong words. An outstanding player. Ekitike, incredible player. This is a well-built well-judged squad. No need for concern about Liverpool, things will improve.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of Diogo Jota, whom he brought in during his tenure, along with the consequences at the club. The forward died tragically in a car crash with his brother recently.
“Can you substitute somebody like Diogo? This isn't just regarding the player himself, it's his character. I can’t imagine the team environment missing him. Putting it into words is tough regarding this. A profound tragedy for the entire squad also. Not a single person would cite it to justify results but it is the situation. Being in that space which he filled completely. Coping with it emotionally is not easy. Unbearable.”
