Iran Claims Attack on US Base in Bahrain, During Regional Counterattacks.
Iran's military claims to have hit a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a large-scale and ongoing attack against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area close to the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The scope of any damage is unclear and the American officials has yet to issue a statement.
Regional Interceptions
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house American military installations - stated they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their air space.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence stated it had intercepted a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the attack on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That preceding assault - initiated at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on locations associated with the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump calling on the people of Iran to rise up against the government.
Wider Impacts
In the State of Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israeli military stated it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates announced that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems engaged the projectiles with great effectiveness and shot down a several projectiles," it added.
Officials reported debris landed in a residential area in the capital, causing some material damage and fatalities.
The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
