Fans Urge Custody of Man Who Touched Ariana Grande
Passionate fans of Ariana Grande are calling for that a individual who jumped a fence and seized the actress during yesterday's Wicked: For Good premiere be taken into custody or removed from Singapore.
A widely shared footage shows the Australian man shoving aside camera operators and rushing toward Grande while the cast made its way down a event pathway surrounded by onlookers.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo promptly pulled the shocked actress away from Mr Wen, who was observed being escorted out of the premiere by event staff.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "free after being taken in", though court documents indicated that he was scheduled to be present on Friday morning. It is not clear if he was faced legal action.
History of Incidents
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who describes himself as a "Troll Most Hated", has crashed a celebrity gathering. His Instagram feed features recordings of him disrupting other celebrity events, including breaching the performance area at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in June this year and in a like fashion during The Chainsmokers performance in the same location last year.
"Measures must be taken taken against him as this is obviously a punishable act," stated an Instagram follower, in a response to a video Mr Wen posted of his act.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" another Instagram user questioned.
Fans Express Concern Over the Star's Safety
Several fans criticized Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had spoken of experiencing trauma-related anxiety after a terrorist explosion at the end of her May 2017 concert in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and injuring hundreds.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" wrote another message on Instagram.
Some supporters also criticised security officers at the gathering for not being sufficiently alert; while different individuals called for social media platforms to block Mr Wen's content.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In footage shared widely, Grande seemed shocked when she was approached by the man. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by security.
Grande has not issued a statement on the event, and the remaining proceedings carried on uninterrupted.
Hundreds of attendees had congregated in a crowd of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific premiere in a Singapore venue, including several who had queued for as long as many hours before it commenced.
The film, to be released on 21 November, is the second of a two-part version of the acclaimed stage musical Wicked, which revolves around the unlikely friendship between two contrasting characters.
The production itself is a spin-off of the classic book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the character Glinda Glinda, was decked out in a champagne pink sequin dress at the premiere while Erivo, who plays the wicked witch, wore a sleek black dress decorated with roses.
They were joined by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the top-earning motion picture of 2024 in the UK, and earned ten award recognitions, securing a pair for best costume and set decoration.
